EL REY COURT

September 14, 2019 in TRAVEL

This wasn’t meant to be a full post about El Rey Court but this place is so wonderful and we took so many photos that I feel like I need to share them with you.

I’m sure you are as curious as me and you would like to know a little more about the history of this place. Well, here it goes. El Rey Court originally opened it’s doors in 1936. With it’s traditional northern New Mexico Pueblo style modern aesthetic the motel has gone through a few renovations, additions and changes. Rooms have been added, the swim club and hot tubs were added and the neighbour motel has been integrated into El Rey Court. The motel as you can see it today has been finalised in 2018 by Jay and Alison Carroll (owners of Wonder Valley) and their business partners. A jewel in the mother road of Santa Fé reviving its allure for a new generation.

We will get to that Santa Fé guide I promised you in the next post…

EL REY COURT

is just perfect to spend an amazing & relaxing time in Santa Fé, New Mexico.

ACNE STUDIOS pale yellow full circle jersey skirt // COS oversized T-shirt // Handmade hat bought in Austin, Texas // ACNE STUDIOS technical chunky sneakers // DRIES VAN NOTEN sunglasses

Pale yellow has definitely been one of my favourite colors this Summer and I’m so happy that some of my so loved brands such as Acne Studios and COS have been launching a few pieces in this color. It matches beautifully with neutrals and whites making a perfect and fresh color combo.

I have to confess I was quite concerned about this Acne Studios jersey skirt and thats why it took my so long to buy it. It’s a full circle skirt made in a jersey fabric which for those of you that don’t know, jersey fabric is way more risky to pull threads than a woven fabric. Adding on the fact that it has a raw edge hem. I was just imagining myself siting on a chair somewhere and getting it all ripped off. Headache! At the end I didn’t resist and I ended up buying it when sales just started in May and I could finally justify myself. I bought 2 sizes down from my usual size (it fits pretty big), I always watch out where I sit and I wash it my hand. If you love it you got to take good care of it and make it last!

Around the 4th of July holiday we planed a Southwest road trip. It was just the perfect timing and we had been planning on it for a while by then. We did Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, Austin and ended up in Santa Fé in 10 days all by car. It was tight, yes, and we could have done it shorter but I just couldn’t imagine not to do Santa Fé. I was so drawn by the architecture and landscape (the desert… again! You know me) so we just went for it. We did it! And you know what, I am so grateful and happy that we did. Loved every bit of the way. It was wonderful! We loved every place we visited, so different from each other and so beautiful but I have to confess Santa Fé just took my heart. WE LOVE IT!

We stayed at El Rey Court (which I had been following on Instagram for a while and couldn’t miss) and we had the best stay we could which for. The place is amazing so we couldn’t resist to shoot a few photos around there. This color combo was just perfect for the desert and I feel like I’m just matching the architecture of the place.

I promise to post more about Santa Fé and El Rey Court in another post. In the meantime you can check out my Instagram for more.

TAILOR MADE linen apron dress with front pockets // ACNE STUDIOS black Tee // CÉLINE by Phoebe Philo cord slippers // LOEWE Paula sunglasses

On repeat. I never get tired of this place that’s it.

Another day in Palm Springs. The sun is high and the heat travels in waves fighting against the concrete of the buildings and the sands of the deserts. Beautiful desert. Quite and peaceful.

Linen is always a good choice for this days and a wide silhouette too. Wearing this tailor made wide apron dress with front and back V-neck and patch pockets in front over a slinky modal jersey Tee from Acne Studios. So fresh and confortable. Paired with this Céline by Phoebe Philo cord slippers (they remind me of a loaf of bread cut in slices, specially the brown ones) that I’ve been lucky enough to find in my size for nearly half price. Ready for anything and everything…

LEMAIRE lemon yellow cotton skirt & foulard top set // JIL SANDER leather pouch bag // ACNE STUDIOS technical chunky sneakers // ACNE STUDIOS square frame dark tortoise sunglasses

WEST. How can the desert feel so much like home is something I haven’t fully figured out yet but I just love it. Enjoying our days in Palm Springs to explore not only Joshua Tree (as you have seen by now) but also the surroundings. The impressive midcentury architecture and other hidden jewels such as the Kendrick Bangs Kellogg house blending in the rocks of the desert. Stunning!

In our expedition we somehow focused on rocks quite much this time. I always had a passion for geology and rocks ever since I was a little kid so maybe that’s what triggered and influenced the mood for this photos. This photos were taken around the Jumbo Rocks area at sunset. We literally had to run quick in order not to miss the light.

Contrasting the heavy shape of the rocks with this super drappy Lemaire set floating and changing shape with the wind. The foulard (which is attached and part of the blouse) gives this look an explorer feeling but also the whole set kind of reminds me of the greek togas. Love the silhouette, almost with it was a dress but then again at least the set you can also use as separate pieces too.

The square shape Acne sunglasses and the chunky technical sneakers give an edge to this look and then cutting it again with another sophisticated item - this Jil Sander soft leather pouch with removable bracelet.

Days on the road crossing desert and mountains, the wonderful vineyards of Sonoma valley and the magic hills of San Francisco. Now we reach the sea and Pacific Highway 1.

We spent the night in Carmel, a lovely place by the sea, to then head on to Big Sur and Pfeiffer Beach. We had high expectations and I can just say it didn’t disappoint. The landscape is just beautiful every step of the way. We couldn’t resist to stop the car every five minutes to enjoy the surroundings which lead us to spend an extra night in a small place by the beach called Cambria. The most magical sunset and the most relaxing sunrise waking up to the sound of the waves on the rocks and the birds singing around.

CECILIE BAHNSEN - THAT DRESS

CECILIE BAHNSEN black cotton wrap dress // ACNE STUDIOS buckle leather sandals // ACNE STUDIOS square frame dark tortoise sunglasses

Can we all agree the danish designer Cecilie Bahnsen makes the most beautiful dresses? Romantic and feminine yet edgy and so cool. Her Spring ‘19 Campaign was so beautifully put together I couldn’t resist it. I got a blouse and a dress and I could have just easily gotten the whole collection if it wasn’t for the price range and the space I don’t have in my wardrobe.

This cotton wrap dress with volume sleeves and tiered skirt wasn’t one of those pieces, this one is from her previous collection and it’s been going with me everywhere this past months. It’s the first dress I think of when there’s a special dinner or event. I’ve layered it over a sheer turtle neck jersey top and wool tights in the Winter and it’s also the perfect Spring dress. I love when clothes are that versatile.

If you want to get that staple piece in your wardrobe I definitely recommend you get a Cecilie Bahnsen dress and please write me back below if you do… I would love to know which piece you got.
